Tourism department of Dubai

Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM)

The official government tourist board, or department, in Dubai is known as the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), also referred to as the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.

Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM)
  • The new DCTCM body formed by decree as an affiliate of the DTCM. Announced 26 Jan 2014 (WAM).
  • DCTCM will be responsible for promoting and marketing the emirate of Dubai as a global tourism, entertainment, events, and business destination.
  • To help promote Dubai and make it more attractive to tourists, the DTCM will charge extra taxes to tourists, called the "Tourist Dirham" which sounds like marketing-speak for "Tourist Tax". Unknown when or how much. The news release just said "Additionally, a fee named the Tourism Dirham will be levied on a per night basis on stays in hotels, hotel apartments and other short-term stay facilities." Presumably this applies only in Dubai, and is additional to the other taxes already charged to hotel visitors in Dubai and the UAE.
  • DCTCM plans to develop a tourist information center somewhere in Dubai. At present there isn't one, except for limited information at Dubai Airport and Dubai Cruise Terminal.
DTCM branding - Definitely Dubai
  • Definitely Dubai - new tourism marketing campaign and branding launched by DTCM October 2010 (press release 25 Oct 2010).

We're not going to complain to the Dubai copyright police though - since they're a Dubai Government department, we're pretty sure they have more wasta than us.
