- In Sharjah, roundabouts are referred to as "squares" on maps even though most of them are round (a few are sort of square).
- Many roundabouts are controlled by traffic lights (traffic signals), and some of the larger ones are being reconstructed as free flow interchanges.
Islamic Institute Street
- On 04 December 2010, WAM news reported that the new Islamic Institute road which was officially opened on 16 August 2010, would be renamed as Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Street, on instructions of the Ruler of Sharjah. Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed street links King Abdul Aziz tunnel in Abu Shaghara with Maliha street near Sharjah University City.
