  • The Vocational Education Development Centre (VEDC) was set up to provide alternative education to Emirati males who have dropped out of mainstream education due to social problems.
  • Male students between the ages of 14-17 (sometimes 18-19) can apply for entry.
  • Students are in a boarding environment during the week, and get 2000 dhs per month.
  • Students follow a 2-4 year vocational program, and have the opportunity to participate in sports and other extra curricular activities. At the end of their studies they are given a job through arrangements the center has made with various local industries.
  • VEDC operates under the joint management of the UAE Armed Forces General Headquarters (GHQ) and the Institute of Applied Technology (IAT).
  • General Manager is John Scott (June 2007).
