University of Connecticut (UConn) announced plans in February 2003 to offer their International Executive Programs (IEP) short course in Dubai Knowledge Village during March, April, May 2003. Each course is several days and participants are awarded a certificate. The first three programs are Managing your Workforce: Global Best Practices in Career Development (3 days), Women in Entrepreneurship: Challenges and Opportunities (3 days), Essential Management Capabilities: Improving your Analytical Skills (4 days).
At the end of 2006, it was reported that UConn was working to establish a satellite branch in Dubai (UConn-Dubai) which would award the same degrees as UConn in the USA. In February 2007, it was reported that the plans had been put on hold due to UConn concerns about human rights issues to do with foreign labor in Dubai, and the UAE policy of not allowing Israeli citizens to enter the UAE (see UAE visa Israeli citizens not allowed).
General Comments - might not apply to University of Connecticut Dubai
- Fees, facilities, education quality varies widely. Allow extra fees for visa, transport, accommodation.
- Salaries, accommodation, other benefits for lecturers vary substantially. Check contracts carefully for medical, housing, flight allowances, etc.
