08 May 2009
- Dr Gunther Brandt is the new Universal American School director for 2009-2010 starting 01 August 2009, replacing Dr Ray Taylor (UAS notice 03 March 2009). Dr Brandt is coming from the Director position at the Baldwin School in Puerto Rico. Previously he was Director of Frankfurt International School,
Director of the American School of Sao Paolo, head of
Washington International School,
Superintendent of Cairo American College,
and had a mangement role at Hamburg International School. Dr Brandt even did some teaching between his university studies and globetrotting directorships.
- The KHDA (DSIB) inspection rating of "acceptable" for UAS is being appealed by the school. In a letter to parents dated 02 April 2009 (on UAS website), the director, Dr Taylor, says that the CIS and MSA inspections were much more thorough and came to a more positive conclusion than the KHDA. He says "The CIS and MSA processes include a detailed self-study through which the school's entire faculty and staff reflect on the school's performance and devise goals and strategies to enhance the school's strengths and remedy its weaknesses." ... "The KHDA process, on the other hand, consists of a relatively brief visit by a small group of educators who are totally unfamiliar with the school".
01 September 2008
