16 Apr 2014: The National reported on 14, 15, 16 April that the school detained 15 students in a classroom because parents had not paid school fees, and that the Sharjah Education Zone (SEZ) was investigating the claims. Headlines included children held "hostage" and "to ransom". According to the report "The principal of the school, N A, said that the pupils were kept in a classroom by a teacher. She said that this was the equivalent of giving them a one-day suspension, which is allowed under Sharjah law." This was contradicted by the head of private education at the SEZ, Hassa Al Khaja, who was quoted as saying "The law gives the school the right to suspend the student but not detain him or her,"

A later report said the school's owner had been found to have taken up a managerial position in the school (which is not allowed according to the UAE Ministry of Education), and was subsequently banned from the school premises. It was not clear from the report if the SEZ or MOE, or another organisation had banned her.
