- Newspapers reported that that Dr B R Shetty, CEO of the New Medical Centre Health Care in Abu Dhabi, announced at a function on 30 April 2011 that Manipal Group would open a Manipal University Medical College in Abu Dhabi from next academic year. Not clear if that meant September 2011, or April 2012, or September 2012.
- Dr Shetty also said that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) had been signed on the same day to establishing the new school of medicine.
