- The Kensington Nursery (TKN?) accepts babies and toddlers from age 4 months to preschool children aged 4 years old who will follow the UK Foundation Stage curriculum.
- Facilities include Activity Center, Art Room, Early Learning Resource Centre, Language Room, Music Pagoda, Outdoor Areas, Organic Garden, Petting Area (for small animals), Sensory Garden, Skill Play Zone, Water Zone.
- Paediatric nurse available during school hours (email nurse@thekensingtonnursery.com). Doctor visits monthly.
- TKN FAQ page indicates they might consider Special Needs students.
- TKN follows principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach, an Italian early education program founded by Loris Malaguzzi which encourages children to learn and demonstrate communication, curiosity, etc in an environment that allows exploration and discovery etc etc. Which sounds like Montessori, Steiner, and just about any other proper educational program. But Newsweek magazine said it was the best early learning system ever ... in 1991. TKN is the first childcare center in Dubai to offer the Reggio Emilia program?
- Tuition fees depends on age and number of days attending (2, 3, 4, or 5 per week).
- Fees include breakfast and morning tea (or elevenses if you're a fan of Mr Pooh), lunch if children do overtime past 1300 (1pm), and afternoon tea if they stay all day.
- Add 500 dhs registration fee, 1000 dhs refundable deposit, and annual medical fee of 500 dhs.
- Nursery timings start at 0800 for up to 2 years old and 0730 for 2-4 years old. Finish times are 1200, 1300, 1400, or 1800 (12pm, 1pm, 2pm, or 6pm). Probably not 2am and 6am despite what their website says.
- Location is in the Central Perk coffee shop area on Umm Al Sheif Rd between Um Suqueim 1 and Jumeirah 3.
- Fax number +971-4-3947375 also on TKN website.
- Another email contact on TKN website is franceswood@thekensingtonnursery.com (for the director?). Or admissions@thekensingtonnursery.com for registrations and admissions.
- TKN telephone number is same as phone contact for Innovation Trading SL Middle East, but different from fax +971-4-3943663 and PO Box 213490 Dubai seen in some sources. Website is www.innovateforyou.com with Dubai and Sharjah tel nos. If toddlers are organising their logistics, then that could be called innovative.
30 June 2009 - Summer Camp press release
- TKN summer camp for children from 4 months to 7 years old. Runs from July to end of August 2009.
- Summer camp timings
0730-1400 (7:30am-2pm) half day or 0730-1930 (7:30am-5:30pm) full day.
26 May 2009 - TKN opening press release
TKN follows principles of the Reggio Emilia Approach, an Italian early education program founded by Loris Malaguzzi. According to the Reggio Emilia program, children are encouraged to learn and demonstrate communication, competence, curiosity, imagination, interaction with others, inventiveness, and resourcefulness. Skills are learned by allowing the children to explore and discover for themselves in a supportive and enriching environment, which doesn't exactly sound unique - don't all nurseries try to do that, irrespective of what system they follow? The difference between the Reggio Emilia approach and a more conventional approach is that whilst the learning goals might be the same, it appears as though more independence and responsibility is encouraged with the RE system. Sounds a bit like an IB Diploma (International Baccalaureate) program for tots.
