19 June 2010
- Indian High School in Dubai has over 8,000 students according to a Gulf News report. That figure might include numbers from the IHS Garhood campus?
- Founding chairman is
Mohan Valrani (also chairman of Al Sharavi Group), who said in the report "The school was started 50 years ago from the one-bedroom apartment of a lady called Hemkala Benbhatia. Then a group of 35 businessmen who formed the board of trustees contributed Dh10,000 each to develop the school with the sheer objective of offering quality education to the Indian community in Dubai,"
23 May 2010
- The Dubai Indian High School (IHS) entered into a partnership (the
"Let Us Rise Together"
program) with the Zabeel Secondary School for Girls to help them with IT in return for assistance with Arabic teaching and learning from grades 1-8, after the 2010 KHDA inspection reports were issued (press release 23 May 2010).
17 March 2010
- Foundation stone of the new Dubai Indian High School laid. New school expected to open in early 2011.
- Honorary chairman of the IHS board of trustees is Mohan Valrani, he is also senior vice-chairman and managing director of the Al Shirawi Group of Companies.
- IHS Dubai website seems to have moved again - www.ihsdubai.org forwards to www.ihsdxb.com.
- Fees information not supplied. Both websites say "This page will be updated soon" on the fees information page. Some fee figures from other sources:
- Up to AED 8000 per year for 2009-2010 (GN 25 Feb 2010)
- AED 3,200-6,000 per year for 2009-2010 (KHDA February 2010)
- AED 4,000-10,000 for Indian schools in Dubai (KT 03 Nov 2009)
- IHS Dubai had applied for permission from the KHDA to increase school fees for 2010-2011 to go towards improving IT facilities, but the request was denied according to a 17 March 2010 report in the Khaleej Times -
Ashok Kumar, the CEO of the IHS said "We did not increase the fees last year and will request KHDA to re-consider," but the KHDA was apparently not interested in a re-submission of the request.
- IHS Dubai are planning to open a new Indian School in Abu Dhabi.
13 August 2009
26 September 2008
- IHS is split into two campuses. Grades 5-12 at Oud Metha location, KG1-Grade 4 are at the Indian School Garhoud campus.
- Tuition fees of AED 3,300-6,240 estimated based on KHDA information (AED 2,750-5,200 for 2007-2008) plus 20% fees increase approved for 2008-2009 (IHS requested 25%). Fees information not found on IHS website - fees info page says "This page will be updated soon"
- Junior campus fees are estimated at AED 3,120-3,300 per annum.
- Principal / CEO Ashok Kumar appointed as a member of the CBSE governing body in India (reportedly the first GCC teacher to be appointed to the CBSE board).
- IHS Dubai websites at www.indianhighschooldubai.org and www.ihsdubai.org, the second one seems to be more up to date. Domain www.ihsdubai.com is for an unrelated company (Innovative Human Resource Solutions), www.ihsdubai.ae is not available, and www.indianhighschooldubai.com is a spammy domain with nasty popups.
09 November 2006
- Large, well-established school for the Indian community, accepts students from KG to grade XII despite the name.
- Grades 5-12 girls attend in the morning, boys in the afternoon.
- Al Garhoud Campus (near Welcare Hospital in Garhood) for KG1 to grade 4 (morning and afternoon shifts) opened in August 1988.
- Sheikh Rashid Auditorium opened January 1994.
