13 September 2010 - Heriot-Watt new courses for 2010 and 2011
- New courses at HW University Dubai starting September 2010 announced by
Professor Ammar Kaka, a Vice-Principal of Heriot-Watt University, Executive Dean and Head of Heriott-Watt University Dubai Campus, who said in a press release "A number of new programmes are being offered this September including MSC in Finance, Business Management with International Marketing, Business Management with HRM, Business Management with Finance and International Accountancy and Finance."
- Prof Kaka also said "We are now proposing to introduce 10 extra programmes for September 2011 in line with our plans to move into the new purpose-built campus," but didn't say what the new programs would be.
- Unknown if the press release statement of Prof Kaka's position as "Head of Heriott-Watt University Dubai Campus" means Professor Brian Smart is out of a job. He was previously named as head of HW Dubai but name not found on HW Dubai website now. No information about staff change found or supplied.
19 July 2010 - Heriot Watt University Dubai expansion (The National)
- Some alternative numbers for the HW University in Dubai expansion were provided in a report in The National.
- Development cost AED 250 million (previously reported as AED 200 million).
- Student capacity 2,500 (previous figure 3,000 or 4,500 students depending on how you read the press release), but the report seems to imply that is expected enrolment in September 2010, whereas the HW press release was referring to September 2011 when expansion is expected to be complete.
- A follow up report in Arabian Business (19 July 2010) rehashing the report in The National seemed to think expansion work would be complete by September 2010 -
The number of students at the campus will increase from 1,400 currently to 2,500 once work is complete after this summer, the National reports. Which would mean a period of less than 3 months to construct AED 200-250 million worth of buildings. Even by Dubai standards of speedy construction (sometimes), that seems overly optimistic.
