A school admissions center (Discovery Centre) is in the Sobha Sapphire tower or building in Business Bay, Downtown Dubai. On Al Khaleej Al Tejari 2 (not 1) St, just off Al Khail Rd. Contact tel +971-4-551 9276. Open Sun-Thu 0830-1630, Sat by appointment. The school is not located in Business Bay, it will be in the Sobha Hartland project, part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid City (MBR City) development in Meydan area.

Fax number +971-4-368 7852 is for Sobha Developers.

School name is Hartland IS (HIS, HISD), not Heartland (not to be confused with Heartland International English School in Winnipeg, Canada).

School appears to be opening initially for FS1 and FS2 to Grade or Year 6 (based on supplied fee structure), expanding to higher levels in future years (Grade 12 or Year 13), with total capacity of about 2,000+ students.

HIS will follow the National Curriculum of England (NC), and plans to offer IGCSE, A-level, and IB at senior levels. Dec 2014 newsletter from the principal said "... will expand over the years ahead to accommodate all grades up to Year 13 and provide access to IGCSEs, A Levels, the IB Diploma ..."

Website domain is www.hartlandinternational.com, not www.hartlandinternationalschool.com.

Teaching jobs at HIS (01 Dec 2014): BBD Education and Consulting is recruiting teachers for HIS, with an open day on Saturday 13 December 2014 from 1100-1300 at the Hartland Discovery Centre, Sobha Sapphire Building, Business Bay, Dubai. Register by sending an email to hartland@bbd.ae.

01 Dec 2014 (press release and other sources):

Facilities will include shaded courtyards, science and technology labs including robotics, 600-seat auditorium and concert venue, 25m swimming pool, additional beginners training pool, indoor sports hall, outdoor football field, rooftop tennis and netball courts, activity rooms for dance and drama. Perhaps music also (wasn't mentioned in press release).

HIS being marketed as a "day-boarding school". Principal's message says "We will enhance the curriculum with elective clubs and societies, within a school day that is a little longer ... we will make time for individual tuition, academic clinics with specialist teachers and personal tutorials ..." Which sounds like marketing-speak for extra-curricular activities and detentions.

Students will learn Arabic, English, and one more language from a choice of French, German, Mandarin, Spanish.

Founding Principal is Dr Paul Silverwood (appointed May 2014), previously Head Master of Queen Margaret's, an independent girls boarding school in York, UK.

See also Sobha International Academy, another Sobha school opening in Sep 2015 in Meydan, unless it's the same as HIS. But fee structure is different, and Sobha said they planned to open two international schools in the Sobha Heartland community.

General comments - might not apply to Hartland International School
  • Many popular schools are full for 2018-2019. New schools in Dubai might have places.
  • Allow extra for books, extra-curricular activities, uniforms, trips, etc if not included in school fees.
