GEMS Westminster School Abu Dhabi (GWA, GWSAD, GWS-AUH) tuition fees, reviews, general information
  • Not clear if an Abu Dhabi Westminster School is actually planned by GEMS, or it was just speculated by a UAE newspaper. No further information found or supplied apart from that one media comment, and there is no Westminster School in Abu Dhabi in the list of GEMS planned schools on their website (last checked 05 Oct 2013).
  • Admission, registration, tuition fees information not supplied. Please send fee structure to education@dubaifaqs.com.
  • Location map, route map not supplied. Location unknown.
05 October 2013
  • No further information found or supplied about a new GEMS Westminster School planned for Abu Dhabi (or Al Ain), unknown if there really is a plan as previously reported.
  • No website at www.gemswestminsterschool-abudhabi.com (domain is still available, has not been registered).
22 May 2013
  • A report in the Gulf News Xpress weekly newspaper on 22 May 2013 about new schools opening in Abu Dhabi during 2013-2014 said that a new proposed GEMS Westminster School in Abu Dhabi had an application pending with ADEC. The report also mentioned another planned GEMS Indian curriculum school for Abu Dhabi which sounded as though it was a different school from GWS-Abu Dhabi, but the report gave no further details of name, location, timeline, construction schedule, fees, etc. The report did seem to indicate they were in possession of secret information that no one else had (apart from GEMS or ADEC presumably), saying XPRESS can reveal that at least one GEMS Indian school and one British curriculum school have received approval from ADEC. The education provider also has pending applications to open Winchester and Westminster brand schools in Abu Dhabi.
  • Not clear from GEMS information if they actually have a plan at present (or are considering a future plan) for either one of the two schools mentioned. However there is a GEMS Westminster School in Ras Al Khaimah under development, opening date planned for September 2013. No Westminster Abu Dhabi school listed on their website.
  • It is possible that GEMS has a plan to open a Westminster school in Al Ain which might explain the report. Al Ain is a city in the emirate of Abu Dhabi and comes under the authority of ADEC with respect to primary and secondary education. But no information found or supplied about a planned GEMS Winchester School in Al Ain either.
  • Given that GEMS threatened to close the Dubai Westminster School by June 2014 (unless parents and the KHDA did what GEMS wanted them to do - pay more fees), it seems odd that they would plan a new school in Abu Dhabi - where it seems even less likely that they could make a profit than in Dubai. Then again, GEMS are opening Westminster schools in RAK and Sharjah, and have other schools planned for Abu Dhabi.
  • It's possible that the report was referring to the new GEMS Winchester School in Abu Dhabi - opening in September 2013, but the report did make a point of mentioning the Winchester school separately from the Westminster school.

General comments - might not apply to GEMS Westminster School Abu Dhabi
  • Many popular schools are full for 2018-2019. New schools in Abu Dhabi might have places.
  • Allow extra for books, extra-curricular activities, uniforms, trips, etc if not included in school fees.
