17 July 2009 - Dulwich College branch on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi (WAM report 16 July 2009)
- Dulwich College (DC) will open a branch in Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island according to an MOU signed between Dulwich College in England, and the Tourism Development and Investment Corporation (TDIC) of Abu Dhabi. The MOU was signed by
the CEO of TDIC, Lee Tabler, and the CEO of Dulwich College
Management International
(DCMI), Christian Guertler.
- Dulwich College Abu Dhabi (DCAD? DC AUH?) opening date is scheduled to be 2012, presumably September when the academic year starts in the UAE.
- DCAD will admit boys and girls from kindergarten (3 years) to 18 years but probably won't have boarding facilities (Repton Dubai is the only UK curriculum school in the UAE with boarding facilities at present).
- DC is a private / independent school for boys aged 7 to 18 years, based in London UK, founded in 1619 (tel +44-20-82999263 or +44-20-86933601, email the.registrar@dulwich.org.uk, website www.dulwich.org.uk).
- Current headmaster at DC UK, Graham Able, will oversee the Abu Dhabi Sadiyat Island development of the new school according to some reports.
- Previous information (going as far back as January 2005) indicated that a Dulwich College branch in Dubai was under consideration. It seems unlikely that a Dulwich College will open in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai, at least in the near future, although the WAM report did say "the college will open the first school on Saadiyat Island" which could imply there are more to come.
- *DC UK offer GCSE & A-levels but other international branches of Dulwich College offer IGCSE and International Baccalaureate (IB). Unknown yet what will be offered at the Abu Dhabi branch.
