Dubai Knowledge Village (DKV or KV) is a Free Zone in Dubai which focuses on educational organisations with a range of companies and services from consultants to universities and training institutes. DKV was launched in September 2003 and has grown rapidly since then - you'll know all about it when trying to find a car park in the steaming mid-summer sun.

There are universities from a number of countries with a branch in DKV, including Australia, Belgium, Canada, India, Iran, Ireland, Pakistan, Russia, UK; providing educational facilities for students from all nationalities. Some of the students even find it a worthwhile learning experience. Or something.

As of September 2007, DKV has 450 companies with 69 of them setting up in 2007, according to their latest press release. DKV has been a very successful initiative, providing expats with many tertiary level study opportunities. Before DKV was launched, university level education was very limited and most expats (and nationals) sent their children to colleges overseas after finishing secondary school. That's not to say that DKV quite ranks with Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Harvard, the Sorbonne, etc. In fact it probably has some way to go but it's getting there and is definitely a viable option when considering education at that level.

There are also a significant number of training institutes and consultants in the field of education and HR. Whatever you want in those areas, you're bound to find someone there who can help you out. Eventually, Dubai Academic City will be the place for schools, universities and colleges while Dubai Knowledge Village will be more focused on training institutes and academic support services.

  • Phase I - 450,000 sq ft, established 2002.
  • Phase II - an additional 6 blocks, 600,000 sq ft. Currently 16 universities and around 200 other educational institutes and service providers in phases 1 and 2.
  • Phase III - located in Dubai Academic City (DAC), 300 million dhs, 1 million square feet, expected to have 2500 students in several universities opening for 2007-2008 academic year including Esmod (a French fashion school), Heriot Watt University (already open in DAC), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), MAHE - Manipal Dubai (moving from KV in Al Sufouh) and S P Jain Centre of Management.
  • CEO of Dubai Knowledge Village is Dr Abdulla Al Karam.
  • Dr Ayoub Kazim is the Executive Director of Dubai Knowledge Village and Dubai International Academic City.
Dubai International Academic City (DIAC)

Another Dubai Knowledge Village initiative, located in Dubai Academic City (DAC) as a base for higher education. Which DAC already is, but DIAC will be the snobs corner apparently - only for 'prestigious' international universities.

Events organised by Dubai Knowledge Village
  • The Breakfast Club - a networking event held every quarter for human development professionals.
  • Small Business Incubator (SBI) workshop - for newly born businesses, not humans.
  • Annual Training and HR Open Day
