Dubai Academic City was established between the Dubai-Hatta Rd and the Dubai-Al Ain Rd after seeing the successful development of Knowledge Village near Dubai Internet City. Official launch was May 2006. The intention is for Academc City to be a base for Universities while Knowledge Village will house training institutes. A number of schools (primary, secondary and K-12) are also establishing themselves at DAC.

The DAC area is expected to cover 129 million sq ft and be completed by 2012.

Sometimes people get Dubai Knowledge Village (not Dubai Knowledge City or Town, or Knowledge Park) and Dubai Academic City (not Dubai Academic Village or Town, or Academic Park) mixed up. They're in separate locations. KV is close to Dubai Marina and Dubai Internet City. Academic City is close to International City (a residential complex under construction).
