A student was reported in the Gulf News 12 May 2010 as being physically assaulted and emotionally abused by teachers at The International School of Choueifat Abu Dhabi (ISC-Abu Dhabi), and the case was being investigated by the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) - ADEC Director General's advisor Yousuf Al Sheriani said: "ADEC will meet with both Mohammad's parents and the International School of Choueifat's management separately, to investigate and discuss details of the alleged abuse of the student, and will take fair action and judgment based on the outcome of both meetings".
Gulf News asked the head for comment - When Gulf News approached Jean Kassis, the ISC school headmaster for comments, he answered: "I'm not going to comment on any of those things, because that's related to the future of a child. The school will hold you and whoever is complaining responsible if you publish this."
A follow-up statement from ADEC published on 15 May 2010 said "ADEC will not accept any form of exploitation or maltreatment of students in Abu Dhabi schools and ADEC will be investigating all sides of this case, and will take appropriate action once a conclusion is reached,"

The International School of Choueifat Abu Dhabi is one of the larger ones in the SABIS network and is a popular choice amongst the Abu Dhabi expat community - especially the Asian and Middle Eastern nationalities.
As with all Choueifat schools, ISC-AD or ISCAD has an intensive and academically rigorous curriculum with weekly exams at least - even for elementary school students - and more frequently at higher levels. Teachers are expected to adhere strictly to the SABIS lesson plan structure.
