  • 2013-2014 tuition fees include costs of text books and materials. Admission registration fee not supplied.
    • Figures in italics not confirmed, they include a 3% increase awaiting approval from ADEC, otherwise fees are the same as for 2012-2013, according to BSAK information provided (The School is currently seeking permission from the Abu Dhabi Education Council to increase fees for academic year 2013-14. The maximum amount of this increase will be 3%.). Any increase will be added to fees due in January 2014.
    • 15 May 2014 update: It appears that fees have not been increased for 2013-2014 - BSAK website shows old fee information and no longer has message about a 3% increase.
  • 2011-2012 Entry/Admission fee FS1 AED 1,460, FS1-FS2 AED 7,740, FS1-Year 13 AED 9,200. BSAK tuition fees include text books, other materials, and educational visits within school hours. [1] Maximum fees approved by ADEC (01 September 2010).
  • 2009-2010 fee schedule not supplied. Please send fee structure to education@dubaifaqs.com.
  • 2007-2008 planned fee increase of 16% in Primary School, 3% for Secondary School, and 7% annually from 2008 onwards.
  • 2006-2007 fees increase of 19.95% approved by Ministry of Education.
  • 2005-2006 fees increase of 5% denied by the UAE Ministry of Education (MOE)?
General information and reviews
  • Scholarships available for talented musicians and sports students in Years 12 and 13, providing a discount of up to 25% on tuition fees (January 2010 information).
  • 2012-2013 student nationalities: About two-thirds of BSAK students are British, the other third are an international mix from a variety of countries. UAE nationals make up about 10% of students, and are the second-largest group after the British. About one-third of students are Muslim.
  • Address, location is between Airport Rd (2nd St) and Karamah St (24th St), towards Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club from Airport Rd, an Al Mushrif district. Additional email address is british.pvt@adec.ac.ae (but don't expect a reply - ADEC provided addresses seem to be unmonitored).
British School Al Khubairat vacancies, careers, teaching jobs
  • BSAK website has details of current and latest teaching posts vacant (and other jobs). For teaching positions, send application letter, CV, photograph, contact details of two referees to the school - check website for correct person's email address.
  • Teacher pay scale of about AED 14,000 to 28,500 per month in 2012-2013 is one of the best teaching job salaries in Abu Dhabi. Working conditions, professionalism, benefits, medical, housing (for international expat contracts) are also good. Of course, trying to get a job at BSAK is quite competitive, and applications for September positions vacant start in October or November the year before.
  • Watch out for BSAK (and other schools in the UAE) hoax teaching job scams posted in online job websites, or coming up in search results. Go direct to the school or a reputable job agency (there aren't that many - TIE, TES, and ECIS are the best for international schools), and don't hand out money for visa fees. Real jobs at BSAK won't ask you for visa expense money.
BSAK school heads, term dates
  • Ms Elaine Rawlings (Acting Head): May 2014-present.
  • Dr Christopher Ray (Headmaster): September 2013-May 2014.
  • Mr Paul Coackley (Principal): 2005-2013.
15 May 2014
  • New principal Dr Ray left according to an announcement from the BSAK Board of Governors: "... today accepted the resignation of Dr. Ray from his position as Headmaster, to take place with immediate effect ...". The Deputy Head, Ms Rawlings, will take over as acting Head or Headmistress for the time being. Reason for leaving not provided (at least not publicly). And not clear if he was asked to resign, or if he asked to resign. Perhaps he didn't complete his 6 months probation period satisfactorily.
  • BSAK website still says Dr Chris Ray is the Headmaster - maybe he's coming back, or the school doesn't know he's left yet.
  • He's still Vice-Chairman of the HMC (he was Chairman for 2012-2013), and is also still head of BSAK according to the HMC.
27 September 2012
  • New BSAK head announced by the Board of Governors "... is delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Christopher Ray as its new Principal." He is currently High Master at The Manchester Grammar School (UK) (started in 2004), and is Chairman of the Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference (HMC). He will start at BSAK on 01 August 2013.
25 May 2012
  • BSAK principal Paul Coackley resignation announced, effective September 2013 (or September 2012). He started in 2005.
20 June 2010 review
  • British School Al Khubarat AED 65 million expansion and extension contract awarded to Wates Construction International (UK) and joint venture (JV) partner Al Fara'a General Contracting.
  • New facilities and upgrades comprise an area of 12,000 square meters including new sports facilities and a new swimming pool.
  • Construction start date scheduled for 01 July 2010 with completion of two phases expected by mid 2012.
10 March 2010 review
  • The British School of Al Kubairat (BSAK) is a highly regarded UK curriculum school in the UAE, however, watch out for some bogus Abu Dhabi teaching job postings which appear to be misrepresenting the name of BSAK (and possibly the headmaster, Paul Coackley) to scam unwitting applicants out of money for alleged visa charges.
  • Whether applying to BSAK, or any other school in the UAE, never ever ever send the alleged recruitment agency any money for claimed visa costs. In the UAE, visa costs are supposed to be paid by the employer. And while some less reputable schools in the UAE might try and get money off employees for visa costs, BSAK is not one of them as far as we know.
  • See the www.uaeembassy.tk warning for more information (link deliberately redirected to information page, not the hoax website).
20 April 2009 review
  • There are two other British curriculum schools in Abu Dhabi that might be compared to BSAK (at least their fees probably are). British International School of Abu Dhabi (BISAD) is an IB profit making school scheduled to open in September 2009. British College of Abu Dhabi (BCAD) is a non-profit British community school in the planning stages and might open in September 2011.
31 August 2008 review
  • Primary school fees increased from Dh 27,600 to Dh 34,995 (27%) and secondary school fees from Dh 42,750 to Dh 46,995 (10%) for 2008-2009 according to a report in The National.
12 October 2007 review
  • British School Al Khubairat (BSAK) has a very good reputation as a place for teachers to work in and for students to study at.
  • BSAK is a member of the British Schools of the Middle East (BSME).
  • BSAK established January 1968 on land donated by HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, founder of the UAE. BSAK then formally established by Amiri decree in May 1971. The school moved to new facilities on Airport Road in 1980. New premises completed in 2001, 2002, and 2005.
  • BSAK website says fees are fully inclusive of books and materials. Not clear if transport, uniform, other costs and charges included.
  • Sometimes spelt "British School Al Khubarat" or "British School Al Kubairat". Also referred to as AKB, "Al Khubairat British School", and the Abu Dhabi Educational Zone (ADEZ) calls it "The British Comunity in Al Khbeirat Pvt Sch" [sic].
  • Originally called "Al Khubairat Community School" or "Al Kubairat British Community School"
