Assistive Technology Learning Resource Center in UAE (ATLC or ATLRC) is based at the Abu Dhabi Women's College (ADW), part of the HCT college system. Postal address assumed to be the same as for ADW. Contact details and numbers not supplied, telephone ADWC directly for more information.
ATLRC supports students with mental and physical handicaps and disabilities including Asperger's syndrome, attention deficit disorder (ADD), autism, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, motion and locomotive impairments, speech and hearing impairments, vision deficits and blindness.
ATLC provides software and hardware resources to aid students with special needs.
Facilities seem to be available only to students at HCT (Emirati nationals only). Presumably expat resident children and students cannot use ATLC services. HCT Student Handbook 2010-2011 says (page 13) HCT has an Assistive Technology Learning Resource Centre (ATLRC) to cater to students with special needs. ATLRC ensures that any student in the HCT system,regardless of the severity of the special need, is provided the opportunity to achieve. ATLRC provides special support and advanced assistive technology, along with continual encouragement to participate in College activities, assessment and learning.
Resources available include Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) software and devices, assistive listening devices, Braille displays, communication aids, low vision aids, magnification software, screen reading software, speech recognition software, speech therapy software, text reading machines, word prediction software.
Official opening date of the center was 25 May 2010, opened by Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chancellor of the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT).
