- The Gulf News had reported that a parent had accused a teacher at Al Ain Junior School of locking up a kindergarten student while the rest of the class were practising for sports day, and the teacher had "threatened to beat the girl" on another occasion.
- The Al Ain Times (issue 37) then reported that Mrs Tanveer Arshad, the school principal, said the Gulf News article was "biased" and "factually incorrect". Some students had remained in a classroom with a teacher, and the other incident was the "waiving of ruler in the child’s face" to "bring order when children become hyperactive."
